Traditional reedpipe; lowest note Bb, note with 3 holes open Eb, 25" long; combines the tube and fingerholes of the flute with the free reed of the sheng for a unique tone color. Made of rosewood, 6 hole on top with a thumb hole on the back, one octave. Comes with a case. Blow, more pressure for the low notes and gentle pressure for the higher ones. The reed is inside a small lip plate but it's not like a bagpipe reed but rather more like a harmonica reed. The bawu looks like a transverse flute when played, but sounds quite different and was featured on the soundtrack to "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon".
